- ANKARA REUNION 2000 -- THE MILLENNIUM PARTY
is finally here!!
BY: wray
The "Fun" will never stop once we get to the "Party". Make your plans now to be in Dallas, TX July 21, 22, 23, 2000, at the Doubletree Hotel in the Lincoln Center, so mark the dates and make your plans right now, let's try and beat the '96 record for attendance....go forth seek out those that haven't been to one of these parties and let them know we really want them to be at this one.
FOR RESERVATIONS: Call the hotel directly at 972-934-8400. Tell the reservations clerk you're with the "Ankara high school group." You may have to spell Ankara. It is recommended by hotel staff that you DO NOT CALL Doubletree's toll-free number. The clerks at the 1-800 number do not have our group rates on their computers. Room rates are $89.00 or $104.00 per night, (includes double occupancy). The higher price includes “Executive Level” concierge service. We've also negotiated greatly discounted rates for a variety of one and two bedroom suites. For those prices, please contact Tim Wurtz and he'll send you the list. Also -- our group rate is good for Thursday night. If a clerk attempts to tell you it isn't, please send e-mail to Tim Wurtz and let him know. The problem will be taken care of.
REGISTRATION FORMS: will be mailed in January 2000. All forms and monies will be sent to Karen Wright (Arbaugh). If you require additional information contact Tim Wurtz.
LETTERS FROM TIM WURTZ:
These letters provide information on the reunion next summer plus much more! If you do not receive these letters, notify Tim Wurtz.

- A-Family Announcements By: Wray
Karen Arbaugh is our latest Grandma. Karen says, "Our daughter-in-law went into labor on Thursday, August 27th at 5:00 p.m. Cory James Arbaugh was born at 9:34 p.m. He weighed 6 lb, 14.5 oz and was twenty inches long. He is a such beautiful baby! Before you jump on me saying that's just because I'm his grandma I must say all newborns are not always cute, some have puffy eyes or mishapen heads but this guy looks like a doll. I have been making blankets and embroidering shirts for months. I have my crib and carseat all ready. Now I just have
to convince his parents that they need a break and I can handle this even though it has been 16 years since I have had a baby in this house." Congratulations to Karen and family!
- Las Vegas Mini-reunion By: Sally Vangsness (60)
The Las Vegas mini-reunion, mostly for people who attended the Ankara High School system in the early 60's, was held on July 9-11th at the Sahara Hotel, Las Vegas. If you click on the link above you can get the lastest on this reunion. The commentary about this get together was so compelling. "We had a good show from the Class of 59 (there were not that many to begin with) and our CLass of 60 showed up in record numbers once again. I think the reason for that may be that we all knew each other so well and we want to be there to make sure the stories that are told are politically correct. Sometimes I think it is a case of enhanced memory data when people attend reunions." We had a great time. Those of you thinking about not attending the San Diego event should read this then re-think your decision making process.
- The A-Family Ankara Directory. Send mail to Tim Wurtz.
By: Wray
Tim would like to have those not yet listed in his Ankara Directory. You can send him your info directly from this Web Page. (click on Tim's name above) Send your name/names (married names in parentheses), HS graduation year (whether or not the graduation took place in Ankara) addresses and telephone numbers. The Subject Field should automatically read: NEW ADDRESS (all caps). Because of the volume and the work involved, the cut-off graduation year for the Ankara Directory is 1980.
- Some A-Family Thoughts about Ankara 1999.
By: David Dick (64)
I'm not sure how to tell you this but Ankara is gone. The place in Turkey
we loved and hated all at once exists now only in the minds of A-People
everywhere. In place of Ankara is a sprawling collection of four story
apartments and office buildings that spread far beyond the city limits as
we knew them. The air hangs heavy with pollution. It lacks the charm and
warmth of Istanbul. It is not a good place to be. After two nights
there, we couldn't wait to get out.....the story continues in the Turk Tour...with Dave Dick '64, Judy Scholes '64, and Susie Tiemann, Judy's daughter.

New additions to E-mail!
The email addresses have been compiled from various sources
including lists that appear on the Internet.
Classmates.com,
Military Brats, and Overseas Brats
are three such locations. More and More of the A-Family are finding the Ankara Web pages. Thanks to Will Harmon (66) for submitting A-Family pages to various Internet Search Engines. Currently we have added more new people to this list than we have in many months. Since the San Diego A-Family mini-reunion there are lots more. We are connected better than we have ever been before. Ankara people are being added and updated on a daily basis. Check back often to see if someone you have been looking for, for years, appears on these pages.

Some of the A-Family on the A-list have sent me some email concerning their thoughts about the A-List. How it's, in some way, changed their lives. We all have had that nagging feeling that something was missing from our lives since we left Turkey. I know the A-list has brought joy to some of you. At the same time it has been a vehicle to meet and make new life long friends. At the same time there have been some incidents that have made others very sad we are only human after all. I am very glad to know that the bulk of the comments from the A-List are favorable thank you for your support and comments. If you have any questions or comments about anything on these pages just send wray some email I'll get back to you as soon as I can. It's nice to know there are friends like you guys out there in this world of today thank you for being there.
