Wray's Writing your Own Home Page

What I have found out about writing Hypertext or HTML (hypertext mark up language) is it is an ongoing thing, an exact thing, and most of all FUN!. If you are new to the Internet and would like to learn how to write HTML documents go to the WWW HTML Demo. I love working with HTML it gives you some great feeling of accomplisment when you have your page done, you have a few laughs, people comment, you blush, they poke you and say, "No, I really mean it.". Oh, ok it's a party, alright! Besides once you have done a page you'll find that you can criticize other peoples homepage much easier. You can find help with HTML at many locations on the net. However, actually using it is a different story, it is time consuming and an exacting language. I had to learn to use the links of hypertext first in order to write hypertext in the beginning. I don't care what you have been told about doing a home page, you MUST learn HTML first before you can understand how to use an editor. Sure they have all kinds of new editors, Front Page 98, Hotdog, HTMLEdit, SuperNotePad, SuperNotePad? Oh, yeah that's the one I use. It's not like the others, you have to know the code to use it successfully. I learned the code before any of these programs came out anyway. That was a blessing for me. Now if you use one of the HTML editors and don't know the code, then how do you find your errors?

Be sure to use Netscape for the test browser. It is the best compared to all the others, and now it's FREE!!. If you want some help with all this, sure go ahead and E-Mail me. I have seen some homepages, commercial sites, and others that have glaring errors in them. I didn't want that for mine, thank you. :) I think that if you are a beginner this is the way to go, as far as an editor for the hypertext. You can use the tried and true, add something check it out, then add some more, check that out. Once you get the hang of it, please remember. These editors are, as one of my friends, Adam Chaput, so aptly put it "...memory grubbing, macro templates, that don't really show you how to write a page they just add a template here or there. You have to really know HOW to write the hypertext for it to actually be something of a page, in the first place. I struggled with it in the beginning just like you will. This is how we have to learn this brilliant lanquage. However, now that I have payed MY dues. I found out that you have to know how to use the hypertext for it to work into something you can be proud of.

What I use now is really the best editor there are for writing HTML. They are the editors that most of the WebMasters use. No, you don't have to go out and buy it or even download it from the net. You have them both right there at your finger tips. They are "notepad" and "edit" (at the Dos prompt type "edit"). This was made clear to me one day as I was whining about loss of memory in my editors, plus the fact that they did not recognize the new HTML3.0. Just use "notepad or edit" they don't have memory limits, they will recognize the latest HTML and they will never need replacing. DUH! Learn to write your own page with any of these editors. Just always remember you have to LEARN hypertext first. Good Luck!

Editors, Browsers, and research are only as good as what you know about HTML. I only consider myself in the "Journeyman Level" standards of the HTML Writers Guild. I am learning though, that is the key. Everyday I do some more, learn some more, and it shows in the work that I am turning out. Comments from the pages that I have on the Web are coming in. [HTML Writers Guild] They ask me, "..how in tarnation did you do that". Well without all the magic incantations, mirrors, and enchantments I can't. Doing all this magic takes time to learn how to control. Sure you can copy someones code, but then do you know how to make it your own. Getting the compliments is really the payment for your work. You will get them too, once you start the learning process. One thing that's very important. Learn to comment on the pages that you like. Even if it is just to say, "Hey, I liked the page". There are people who spend a large amount of their time doing these pages, they need to hear from you if you like what you see, besides only takes a minute, and you are just staring at this screen, eating some snack anyway.

One final thing! If you don't have the time but would like to exercise your right to have a page of your own in Cyber Space. I will glady make one for you. What I do is help people get started with there own page by putting one on that is just the basics. You can give me your idea for your page and we can put something on the World Wide Web that tells people that you are here. This is something that I have been doing for some time now. If you want something right away and not have to learn all this HTML stuff I'll do it for a small fee. I give you a homepage you can put on right now. You get updates, graphics, and I even give you some links to things you are interested in. Just E-Mail Me with the details and we can get started on your place in Cyber Space!
